Garden Gleanings from the Prairie Pedlar

A gardener can blossom at any age. My first scrape with a garden hoe occurred thirty-one spring times ago when I parted the ground and threw in my first flower seeds. This blog will allow me to share what I've learned, reflect on the wisdom I've gleaned, and announce relevant news from the Prairie Pedlar. Welcome!

About Me

Jane Hogue
As the Prairie Pedlar celebrates it’s 25th year of business in 2010, we count our blessings. Sprouting as a humble backyard business in 1985, the Prairie Pedlar moved to our present acreage 15 years ago. The gardens have been featured in numerous newspapers and magazines. From 1993–1998 I wrote a column, Kindergarden, for Country Living Gardener magazine. Each summer, the Prairie Pedlar hosts garden walks, bus tours, wedding celebrations, reunions, and annual Prairie Pedlar events. Five greenhouses and a slew of barns and sheds that hold gifts for the garden and the gardener comprise the retail opportunities at the garden. Without a doubt, the most treasured accomplishment of our business has been the lasting memories we have reaped as a family working and playing together among the flowers and herbs. Unwavering optimism, a friendly disposition, and reverent devotion to the earth are common ground among gardeners. It was, perhaps, a desire to embrace these wholesome values with our three children that first lured us to the earth. The garden has nurtured our family's spirit and brings out the best in all of us. I hope you will find the same simples pleasures in your own backyard.
